After School Programs
Welcome to San Francisco Recreation and Park Department's Citywide Latchkey Program! We provide supervised recreation for approximately 1,300 youth ages 6-12 at various Recreation & Park facilities. In 1988 the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department created a new citywide program in response to the growing trend of "Latchkey children": urban children home alone during critical after-school hours. Today, the Latchkey Program continues to address the need and as we provide supervised and structured recreation-based programming to children and young people ages 6-12.
These programs offer various activities for school age youths and support working parents by providing reliable extended care after school for the school year. A snack is provided. Parents will have the option to pay the entire fee upon registration or to pay half upon registration and the final balance on February 1, 2010. There is no latchkey on legal holidays or during school break times such as winter break and spring break. *Some latchkey sites will offer free extended care from 2-3pm. Please inquire at the recreation center. PLEASE NOTE: Starting in August 2010, the latchkey fee for the school year will increase to $665.00.
