Natural Sciences & Technology

Cultural Division programs also underscore the creative connection between Art and Science. We provide exhibits, classes, workshops, lectures, special events, and many other hands-on learning experiences for children and adults that highlight the creative process.

Programs that promote interest in Natural Sciences and the Environment are particularly relevant as our society confronts the challenges of global warming and environmental degradation. Finding new and creative ways to diminish our impact on the environment and to make our culture more sustainable are topics of great interest to our participants.

Since most scientific and artistic endeavors begin with keen observation. Our programs strive to provide participants with opportunities to experience nature first-hand. This may mean wading in a coastal tidepool to collect specimens for an exhibit, looking at the stars through a handmade telescope, or simply getting a close-up view of one of the native species on display in our live animal exhibits. Trying to understand the complex interface between our culture and the natural environment is fertile ground for engaging programs and activities.
