The Randall Museum

San Francisco's children's museum is situated on a 16-acre hill overlooking San Francisco and the Bay. The museum features a live animal exhibit, an earthquake exhibit with a working seismograph and a replica of a 1906 earthquake refugee shack, a "treehouse" toddler space, a working model train (Saturdays only) and other interactive exhibits. The museum's theater is host to a number of concerts, movies, plays and lectures year-round. In the museum's gardens, visitors are surrounded by stunning views of San Francisco and the Bay.

The museum offers a variety of low-cost, hands-on programs in the arts and sciences for families, children, teens and adults. The facility boasts a full woodshop, ceramics studio with low fire, stoneware and raku kilns, an art studio and 196 seat theater, as well as several multi-use classrooms.

Saturdays are Special at The Randall Museum. Drop-in family hands-on art and science workshops occur every Saturday at 10 am and from 1 to 4pm. A Live Animal Presentation meets from 11to 12 noon. Visitors can watch the animals being fed at noon.

The museum's year round schedule includes classes in science, natural history, ceramics, woodworking, and arts & crafts. Classes meet once a week for 5-10 weeks. In summer, the Randall Museum offers a popular summer camp for ages 6-12. Class costs are low, and scholarships are available. The museum also hosts special event days for the whole family, with hands-on art and science activities and entertainment: Halloween, Holiday Craft Day, and Bug Day.

Science field trips are available to elementary school classes, and some transportation grants are available. Programs cover a variety of science and cultural history subjects linked to California Science Education Standards. The museum also organizes the annual San Francisco Middle School Science Fair.
