Workreation
Workreation is a student youth employment and training program that is an integral part of the San Francisco Recreation & Park Department's mentorship program. The program has been created for youth ages 14 - 17. 2012 marks the 53rd annual year of the program. Participants work for minimum wage in a variety of recreational, aquatic, horticultural, administrative and athletic positions throughout the Recreation and Park Department. Youth are provided the opportunity to develop leadership skills, problem solving, working alongside others and community awareness. They develop job-related skills such as safety awareness, job retention, program planning and implementation, communication skills and first aid. Youth work for 10 hours per week during the school year and 20-30 hours per week during summer programming. All youth that are 14-17 years of age and either attend school in or live in San Francisco are eligible. Applications for summer open in mid-December and close in mid-January. Applications can be found on http://jobaps.com/sf under Class 9910 Public Service Trainee. The interview process takes place in mid-to-late February.
