Japantown Peace Plaza Vision Plan
Scope of Work
The Peace Plaza Vision Plan is a strategy for the future of Japantown’s central public space. An extensive community-engagement and concept phase resulted in a strongly support design framework that is informing future design and construction. The renovated plaza is planned to have new waterproofing, paving, planting and seating, as well as a new central “water mirror”.
A near-term improvement for the plaza is the replace of the expansion joints where the plaza borders the mall on either side. This work will provide protection from water intrusion and will remain even when the full plaza renovation takes place.
The concept design portion of the project was funded through the City’s General Fund, in the amount of $375 thousand. Future funding for the project is dependent on the passing of the 2020 Parks Bond, in which it is identified to be fully funded at $25,000,000.
This work is funded half by Rec-Park and half by MTA, funding amount is approximately $350,000
