Franklin Square scope of improvements has been expanded to meet access code requirements and site constraints. The specific items are:
- Access: When the path leading to the exercise equipment is made accessible, the slope to the neighboring paths are increase requiring new steps and handrails for safety.
- Drainage: Leveling the site for the exercise equipment required a drainage system to capture runoff and keep from draining off a sloping site. The drainage will charge the water table and keep rainwater within property boundaries.
- Operations: The new amenities required additional utilities for operations in the west area. The new quick coupler builds off the nearest connection by the playground east entrance.
The expanded scope also increased the project cost and schedule. Recreation and Park Department presented the larger project to Eastern Neighborhood who can provide 2018 funding for the additional necessary improvements. The project experienced a slight delayed in 2017 and is now on track to be completed in 2018.
