HABITAT CONSERVATION FUND GRANT SOUGHT FOR MCLAREN PARK TRAIL IMPROVEMENTS AT VISITACION AVE

Capital Project Update

The McLaren Park Trails Improvement Project team has applied for another grant in an effort to leverage already committed 2012 Bond funding. Staff will present this grant opportunity to the Recreation and Park Commission Capital Committee on Wednesday, November 7. Click here for hearing agenda and time and location details.

The funding sought is a state Habitat Conservation Fund grant, like those that have funded trail improvement work in Glen Canyon, Twin Peaks and Golden Gate Park Oak Woodlands. The amount of funding requested is $202,000. If awarded, this funding will help support planned improvements along the Visitacion Ave multi-use trail, including the following:

  • Approximately 1/4 mile of multi-use pedestrian and bicycle trail, with Park Tread surfacing, from the entrance to McLaren Park on Hahn Street and Visitacion Avenue to Visitacion Valley Middle School;
  • Installation of boulders to delineate the trail;
  • Planting of new native trees and landscaping with habitat value; and
  • Interpretive and wayfinding signage.

Rec and Park anticipates notification of whether or not grant awarded by June 2019, which will work out well as the design team will be moving toward more detailed concept design at that time.
