Lighting and safety improvements at VMD are close to completion. We have had a few unfortunate delays from suppliers and subcontractors, but are in the home stretch of construction! PG&E will be installing our new meter and energizing the site on October 12th, and we are hoping to open to the public soon thereafter. As soon as we have a confirmed opening date, we will announce here and via social media.
Knowing how essential the playground and grassy field are for neighboring Bessie Carmichael School, Rec and Park worked carefully with our contractor to ensure these areas were open to SFUSD students as they began school programming this fall. Bessie and associated afterschool program staff, as well as on-site Pit Stop attendants have been key to ensuring safety as youth use the ballfield and playground across the fence from active construction work.
You’ll see in the attached photos that the grass on the lowered mound is rooting well and new netting is strung around the ballfield (hung from the outside, so as not to interfere with SFUSD use of the field). In addition, all of our pedestrian light poles are installed and wired and the reorganization and expansion of the community garden is almost complete. We’re just waiting on our gates, and completion of a few minor items. Thanks for you patience.
