    Section 16.3 of the Management Agreement specifies that the “Joint Zoo Committee,” which was established in 1982 prior to the Management Agreement and which consists of three members of the Recreation and Park Commission and three members of the Zoological Society’s Board of Directors, shall be maintained throughout the term of the Agreement and shall hold public meetings at least 11 times per calendar year to discuss and hear public testimony regarding major policies affecting the Zoo, including without limitation the setting of fees, new animal exhibits, animal acquisition and disposition policies, land use, and capital and operating budgets.

    The Recreation and Park Department is governed by a seven-member Commission appointed by the Mayor to four-year terms. In accordance with the Charter, the Recreation and Park Commission is primarily a policy-making body, establishing the policies by which the Recreation and Park Department operates. The Commission is responsible for the over 220 parks, playgrounds and open spaces throughout San Francisco and two outside the City limits. These include destinations such as Camp Mather, Golden Gate Park, Harding Golf Course, Coit Tower, Palace of Fine Arts.

  1. Mission Dolores Volunteer Workparty

    Please join the Dolores Garden Club and the Dolores Park Ambassadors at a monthly volunteer workparty from 10 am- 12 noon.  Meet your neighbors and make new friends at this recently renovated park.  Volunteer tasks include planting, weeding and horticultural maintenance of ornamental planting beds.  All supplies, tools and gloves are provided by SFRPD. Please wear closed-toed shoes, long pants and layers. The event will occur rain or shine. Meet at the plaza entrance to the playground next to the picnic benches. Learn new horticultural skills at this green jewel in the heart of the Visitacion Valley neighborhood. Six separate, themed lots between Leland and Tioga streets comprise this open space. The Greenway provides nearly 2 acres of critical outdoor space for a diverse community of wildlife and city-dwellers. All supplies, tools, and gloves are provided by SFRPD.
