Wrendering of Buchanan Street Mall Memory Walk by Public Works

This is a full week for the Buchanan Street Mall Renovations project!

The Buchanan Street Mall project team is seeking San Francisco Arts Commission Civic Design Review committee approval on the landscape features of the Memory Walk: decorative paving and gateway columns and tall fencing—with space reserved within these elements for interpretive and artistic content. An informational update will also be shared with the Recreation and Parks Commission. Please click here to view the Memory Walk Concept Design slides and see details below to participate in the meetings.

Trust for Public Land continues to lead design of the Memory Walk, in collaboration with Recreation and Parks, Citizen Film, and the African American Arts & Culture Complex. These four partners have framed programming that includes artist mentorship, community curation and participation, and a process for developing future art opportunities. These three Memory Walk program pieces will be further refined by partners and through additional community process this fall.

The project team continues to actively fund-raise for the Memory Walk program and future art opportunities, and future art opportunities will be presented to the Recreation and Parks Commission for approval in advance of releasing a public RFQ for original artwork.
