The Shelley Promenade in McLaren Park is now a permanent pedestrian promenade after the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved the Ordinance on October 24 and Mayor London Breed signed it into law on November 3. This nearly half-mile stretch of Shelley Drive has been closed to cars since April 2020 and with its new permanent status it will continue to be a safe space for biking, running, and walking.
Thank you for your support as we piloted the promenade over the last few years and worked to get it passed into law.
Based on community engagement, physical improvements at the Shelley Promenade will be minimal, and focused on function and accessibility. Barriers will be positioned in the coming months, a new multi-use trail connecting Shelley Promenade with Mansell Promenade will be constructed as part of the McLaren Trails Priority Improvements project in 2024-25, and other improvements will follow additional stakeholder engagement.
