McLaren Park – Shelley Promenade | Parking area opening near Mansell Street

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on August 02, 2024

Rec and Park is happy to announce the opening of a small parking area on John Shelley Drive West near Mansell Street at the Field of Dogs. Accessed from Mansell Street to the south, the area will accommodate over 20 vehicles, parked parallel to the curbs. Parking here is available between sunrise and sunset, and the area is locked and inaccessible after dark.

Log barriers and “Do Not Enter” signage have been placed at the north and south ends of the Promenade, maintaining this half-mile stretch as a haven for recreation, with no access to private vehicles.

The gates at Mansell will be opened and closed at the same times as the Amphitheater Parking Lot. Parking remains available at the Upper Reservoir parking lot. For your safety and the safety of others, please keep red curb areas and spaces marked “No Parking” clear at all times to accommodate emergency vehicles and turn around space for private vehicles.

During our public process the community requested a vehicle parking area as a gateway to the heart of McLaren Park, its trails, and the off-leash dog play area. As a citywide park, this parking area allows people to drive to the park from across the city. Transit access to this location is available by the 29-Sunset bus.
