McLaren Trails | McLaren Trails tree work almost complete

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on November 01, 2024

Our contractor has finished work on Philosopher’s Hill! Hazardous tree removals have made the trails more safe and improved the health of remaining trees by decreasing crowding and increasing light penetration and airflow through the forest. Having cleared a lot of downed wood, there is also now space to layout planned future trail connections, northwest to the paved paths at the Upper Reservoir and northeast to “1st and Main.”

The contractor is wrapping up remaining tree work west of Jerry Garcia Amphitheater within the next week. Please see below public access plan. For your own safety, please avoid the work area and follow all posted trail closed and detour signs. While the east end of “Main” will be closed during work hours, the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and restrooms will remain accessible via the asphalt path from the Amphitheater Parking Lot and via the driveway connection from Philosophers’ Way.

Please mark your calendars! Project Manager Lauren Dietrich Chavez will present at a virtual meeting hosted by the McLaren Collaborative on Monday, November 18th at 6:30pm. She will provide a summary of completed tree work and review the scope and anticipated schedule for forthcoming trail work. We’ll share the link and full agenda in our next blog update.

Feel free to reach out with any questions.
