Thanks to the nearly thirty people who stopped by office hours yesterday.
Rec and Park and Success Centers staff shared information about the various workforce development initiatives that are in place on the Buchanan Street Mall Renovation project as well as the legal and policy frameworks we're operating within.
After the meeting, we relayed the community message demanding urgent hiring of Fillmore neighbors to our prime contractor, McGuire and Hester.
McGuire and Hester has been a team player, dedicated to the project mission that construction benefit community while delivering community vision. They responded collaboratively and are willing to shift some of their labor force to other projects to make space to hire more people from the Fillmore neighborhood.
Rec and Parks' workforce partner Success Centers promptly sent a referral list for laborers, both recent graduates from their project-sponsored pre-apprenticeship training program and active union members. McGuire and Hester reached out to the union hall today and will be following up with candidates.
We are working on updating our construction workforce development fact sheet to share progress to date and clarify upcoming opportunities.
