Twin Peaks Trail Improvement Project and Promenade Project | Construction update, August 2025

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on August 25, 2025

We’re excited to announce that the Crestline Connector Trail is now complete and open to the public!

This new connector not only restores access between Crestline Drive and the Twin Peaks summit but also serves as the final piece of the broader trail renovation project that began at Portola Drive.

With this milestone, the project achieves a major goal: creating a trail network that now ties directly into both the Creeks-to-Peaks Trail network and the regional Bay Area Ridge Trail. The Crestline Connector also provides a direct link to the MUNI bus stop serving Twin Peaks, making the summit more accessible to visitors traveling without a car.

With the trail portion of the project complete, we now turn our focus to the next exciting chapter, the Twin Peaks Promenade Project. This project will transform the closed section of Twin Peaks Boulevard into a vibrant linear park. The design calls for two trail surfaces, a paved path providing ADA accessibility and accommodating strollers, wheelchairs, and bikes, paired with a natural aggregate “ParkTread” trail for walkers and joggers seeking a softer surface. Visitors can look forward to new seating areas, concrete seatwalls that also double as casual skate features, bike racks, overlooks, and restored habitat along the route. Wayfinding and interpretive signage will guide visitors and highlight the unique natural and cultural features of Twin Peaks, including the endangered Mission Blue Butterfly.

The Promenade will also provide direct connections to both the Bay Area Ridge Trail and the Creeks-to-Peaks Trail, further strengthening Twin Peaks’ role as a central hub in the city’s open space system.

Currently, the Promenade design team has completed 95% of the construction documents, which are undergoing final agency review with SFMTA and the San Francisco Fire Department. Following these approvals, the project will go out to bid in the coming months, with construction anticipated to begin in late summer 2026.

In the meantime, we invite you to celebrate the opening of the Crestline Connector Trail by exploring the newly completed pathway and experiencing the powerful connections it provides to nature, views of the city, and to the greater Bay Area trail system.

Stay tuned for more updates as we take the next step toward reimagining Twin Peaks as a destination for recreation, reflection, and connection.
