Please be advised: PG&E will be working on McAllister Street on January 12-16. The work requires a lane closure on McAllister during working hours. Expect work vehicles in the roadway, as well as impacts to parking and traffic. Please follow all posted signage and directions from flaggers.
Our contractor is getting close to finishing underground work at Buchanan Street Mall – there are just a few utility excavations and green infrastructure installations left to go.
Recent progress highlights include:
- Installation of the irrigation mainline is now complete.
- Concrete pours for the playground and exercise equipment footings between Golden Gate Avenue and Turk Street are now complete.
The following scopes are underway and will continue:
- Installation of underground electrical conduit
- Installation of new drain inlets and conveyance pipes for our new rain gardens and underground infiltration galleries in the sidewalks
- Installation of drinking water lines for the park’s new drinking fountains
- Rebar, forms, and concrete for the Memory Walk art fencing, basketball hoops, light pole, and stage footings
- Rebar, forms, and concrete for low site walls
Upcoming work includes:
- Excavations on park property and installation of underground infiltration galleries for stormwater detention
- Soil grading and preparation for paving of the Memory Walk pathway
- Large-scale concrete pours for the stage and Memory Walk art fence footings
Our Memory Walk artists have been meeting with Fillmore community members to develop their concepts. They were excited to meet with community members at the Fillmore Holiday Night Market in December and Malik Seneferu hosted workshops with youth at Ella Hill Hutch.
The artists would like to meet you too! Join us for a Buchanan Street Mall Community Meeting on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at the African American Art & Culture Complex (AAACC) 3rd floor Hall of Culture (762 Fulton St). At this meeting, we will have a full-scale model of one of the Memory Walk columns and art fence panels that our contractor made. Come out on January 15 evening to check out the models and chat with our Memory Walk artists.
