I hope you are well and finding opportunities to connect with nature and virtually connect with community during this time of sheltering in place.
I’m posting this blog with immense gratitude for our urban parks: the home these lands provide for myriad species, and the opportunities they afford us humans for recreation, reflection, connection, and learning. It’s an honor to work on this McLaren Trails Project. THANK YOU for participating!
After our 3/7 trail-walk and through this shelter in place, the project team has been refining the conceptual design and the project cost estimate while also working on a couple additional grant applications. We realized a few months ago that the project may not have enough money to do all the work proposed in all four areas. The Visitacion Avenue trail is well defined and has specific grant support. Staff is compiling recommendations for current priorities within the other three areas (Upper Reservoir, Shelley Interior Loop, University Hill/ Louis Sutter to Mansell Courts) and will solicit feedback from the community at the next meeting. The project team is also preparing to share the revised conceptual design, identify trails proposed for decommissioning, and note an initial plan for wayfinding and interpretive signage, fencing, and any other placed items.
The next Community Meeting for McLaren Park Trails Priority Projects will be
Wednesday 5/20/2020 4pm
With the currently advised social distancing due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Recreation and Parks Department is continuing community engagement virtually. Please join us online for a presentation and question and answer forum on the proposed trails and natural features improvements in four priority areas of McLaren Park.

Detailed directions below. Please read thoroughly, and try logging on in advance of the meeting to avoid missing any content.
Some changes and refinements are in the works based on feedback already received, still the conceptual design shared at the 3/7/20 trail walk describes the current direction fairly accurately. If you haven’t yet shared your comments, please review the 3/7/20 Conceptual Design and share your feedback via this survey. This survey will be live until Wednesday 5/13.
For additional project information, please read the main project page and past blog posts.
Thanks for helping to shape the trails and natural features in McLaren Park!
