Hello neighbors! As we announced in July, our Rec and Park Commission unanimously approved a contract award to Treaty Construction for the renovation of Richmond Playground. The contract is now fully executed, and construction should be starting soon.
Construction work for this project will include a complete renovation of the children’s play area with new surfacing and equipment for both the toddler and school-aged children’s play areas; upgrades and accessibility improvements to the public restrooms; accessibility improvements at park entrances; and placemaking improvements such as new plantings, paving, seating, and other furnishings.
Once construction starts, you will start to see pedestrian detours and other construction impacts. The multi-use court will be closed for the duration of the project. The tennis and basketball courts will remain accessible via a gate south of the main 19th Avenue entrance.
We will communicate construction information, including any changes to how the park courts are accessed, via banners and other signage at the site, as well as through our newsletters, this project blog, and the project webpage.
