Continued Construction Updates for December at Japan Center Malls:
- East Mall: Entrance from Post Street - Detour through the center of the Plaza until mid-January when a temporary path will be installed alongside the building.
- West Mall: Entrance from Post Street - New detour through the center of the Plaza begins mid-January.
- Night Work: Night work continues Monday through Friday, 3:30-8:30 AM, until December 13. Night work will focus on mall entrances to minimize disruptions to mall businesses.
- Saturday Work: Scheduled for December 14 to catch up from previous rain delays.
- Garage Work: Expect to see additional scaffolding on the lower garage ramp mid-December and flaggers will direct traffic. Through mid-2025, approximately 60 parking spots below pagoda will remain unavailable. Drive cautiously and follow posted detours in both upper and lower levels.
- Waterproofing: Work continues on concrete slabs east of the pagoda and along Post Street near East Mall.
OPEN FOR BUSINESS! Japan Center Malls remain open throughout the duration of construction. Please note pedestrian detours:
- Access from Geary Boulevard - Use the Geary Boulevard parking garage to access both East Mall and West Mall.
- Access from Post Street - Use the fenced paths near the buildings to access East Mall and West Mall.
- Sidewalk: Accessible pedestrian detour is open along the north side of Geary between Laguna to Buchanan Streets. For safety, follow all detours, stay within fenced pedestrian detour lane, and avoid walking in the bus lanes.
