Since our last update in March, we’ve made good progress on the trail work and natural features restoration at the Upper Reservoir and throughout the Shelley Inner Core.
At the Upper Reservoir, the sloping walkway from the parking lot to the reservoir level was completed, and our contractor is now working to install a new ADA accessible parking stall and entry plaza.
In the Shelley Inner Core, work continued along the section of trail known as “Main,” the primary circulation artery between the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater and the Upper Reservoir. To address trail erosion issues, we re-graded the adjacent slopes and installed new drainage features under the trail to help it shed stormwater more effectively. At the lower eastern end of Main, we installed a low retaining wall in the hillside to protect young oak trees nearby, while still allowing for a gradual slope along this first section of the trail. This trail work is nearing completion and we’re still well ahead of the first event of the season at Jerry Garcia Amphitheater, scheduled for early May. The eastern half of the trail, east of “1st and Main” is now open. Our contractor has now shifted to the western portion of the trail and we anticipate this work will be completed before the first event of the season as well.
Toward the end of April, our contractor will begin to lay out the ribbon trail on University Hill between Louis Sutter Playground and the Mansell courts.
We understand that trail work is disruptive and we appreciate everyone’s ongoing support. You can help by continuing to follow all on-site signage and by staying out of closed areas.
