RPD Park Improvements: McLaren Park Trails

Louis Sutter Playground update | February 2023

Capital Project Update

Construction is underway south of Louis Sutter Playground! We are removing a failing pathway and grading the hillside to achieve an easy slope from the parking lot to the existing path between Dwight and the Hidden Bridges. This is the first segment of a new ribbon trail that will eventually connect Louis Sutter to the Philosopher’s Way lookout and the courts near Mansell. The ribbon will have a moderate (<10%) slope, and no box steps, improving the network of multi-use trails in the park.

We are taking this opportunity while the ground is open to collaborate with our Structural Maintenance Division and replace some leaking pipes, improving the irrigation system and saving water.

The same contractor will also complete miscellaneous access improvements inside the two restrooms at the roundhouse at some point in March, and have been directed to keep one restroom open at all times

Please reach out to Project Manager Lauren Dietrich Chavez with any questions or concerns: lauren.chavez@sfgov.org or 628-652-6643.
