Hello neighbors! We have three exciting announcements to share about the construction of the new Gene Friend Recreation Center:
Construction Start
First, we are excited to announce that the City issued Notice to Proceed (NTP) today, February 15, 2024, which represents the official start of construction. This is a very exciting milestone for the project.
Contractor staff will be on site next week, following the President’s Day holiday, and will begin with abatement work in the building, prior to building and site demolition.
Request for Feedback on Public Art Proposals
As a reminder, the San Francisco Arts Commission is conducting a review process to choose an artist to create an integrated wall artwork for the interior north-facing wall of the gymnasium at the new Gene Friend Recreation Center. Click this link to review the artwork proposals and provide feedback. Deadline to provide feedback is Friday, February 23 at 5 p.m.
Groundbreaking Photos
Our ceremonial groundbreaking event last Monday, February 5 was a big success! Thank you to everyone who was able to join as we gave the old facility a loving send off and welcomed in this exciting new chapter. Below are some of our favorite photos from the event.
