Lake Merced | Construction update, April 2024

Rec Park Improvements | All Project Updates Posted on April 09, 2024

Hello neighbors! Since our last update at the end of February, we’re happy to report that construction work around the northwestern portion of the lake is on-track to begin construction in Spring 2024, continuing through Fall 2024.

Expect to see signs of construction, including trail closures and detours, starting in early May.

This project will reconstruct the asphalt pathway from Harding Park Road to the Sunset Circle Parking Lot to make it fully ADA compliant, and the natural surface pathway will be repaved with softer soil that provides less impact for runners and walkers. Existing fitness stations along this same stretch of pathway will be replaced with new adult exercise equipment. The Sunset Circle parking lot will receive six new ADA parking spaces.

Once work begins, there will be a significant pedestrian detour, shown in the accompanying diagram. This detour is expected to last for 2-3 months starting in May.

Subsequent detours and other construction impacts will be communicated via signage at the lake and announcements on the project webpage.
