Construction at Buchanan Street Mall is making great progress! Major work has been focused on carefully mapping and assessing existing utilities, and refining our plans for health and safety, site logistics, and traffic control. There has also been some surface demolition on the southern blocks.
Sewer work began the week of June 2 and will continue for the next few months. This work includes system cleaning, repairs, and the installation of a cast in place lining in the sewer mains. There are no anticipated service interruptions associated with the sewer work.
The sewer work does require construction staging in various cross streets. While no street closure is needed, pedestrian access and vehicle traffic control will shift from time to time as work progresses over the next several months. Please pay attention when traveling near Buchanan Street Mall and follow all directional signage and flagger instructions.
Construction fences are now in place on the three southern-most blocks from Grove St to Golden Gate Ave and construction work is underway in these areas. Site fencing will be installed on the block between Golden Gate to Turk the week of June 23 and on the block from Turk to Eddy in mid-July.
All doors and gates that open onto Buchanan Mall will remain accessible via ADA-compliant access routes between the cross streets at the east and west edges of construction. As requested by neighbors, these access routes now have night lighting for improved safety. If you have other suggestions for improvement, please reach out and let us know! While our office hours on 4th Tuesdays have been popular, office hours on the second Thursday of the month have not been well attended. If there’s community interest in having two office hours sessions a month, we’d love your help to find a time and location that works better for everyone.
