Pickleball Courts Reservable for Tournaments
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department offers reservations at select pickleball courts for tournaments. Reservations are offered quarterly (Jan-March, Apr-June, Jul-Sept, Oct-Dec) at two types of pickleball courts during designated times as described below:
| Type of Court | Location | Courts | Nets | Reservable Hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dedicated Always Open Play | Larsen | 1-8 | 8 permanent | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Dedicated Always Open Play | Louis Sutter | 1-6 | 6 permanent | 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. |
| Reservable (with at least four courts) with Some Open Play | Moscone | A-F | 4 rolling | During Open Play Pickleball; Schedule |
| Reservable (with at least four courts) with Some Open Play | Rossi | A-D | 4 rolling | Open Play Pickleball; Schedule |
Applications are due by November 1 for the next calendar year. Permits are then issued by lottery. If any slots are not taken, they can be requested after the due date on a first-come, first-served basis. Permittees must wait at least 3 months between permits.
Fees: The fee is $20 per hour, per court for nonprofits; or $40/hour, per court for for-profits (or nonprofits running tournaments to generate revenue for their operations). Insurance is required.
Deposits/Refunds: Within 5 days of award date, a nonrefundable payment of $100 is due. Within 45 days of event, full payment is due and is nonrefundable except for weather.
Preference is given to organizers that are not-for-profits running the tournament on a break-even basis. Preference is also given to organizers allowing San Francisco residents to have the first right to sign up.
During the application process, applicants must provide details about their event including event organizer, participants, and if it is an open-to-all and/or a free, community event.
Pickleball courts that are dual use are only reservable during designated open play pickleball time. This applies to Moscone and Rossi. In addition to tournaments, the use of these courts could be more expansive and include special occasions such as school fundraising events, community gatherings, and potentially private party use. Generally, these special occasions last no more than 2 hours.
