Waterproofing and drainage work is complete in nearly half the plaza. We are working now to finish the other half. We expect some odor during this process, and fans will be used to help with airflow.
Also, please be advised that we expect some limited Saturday construction work in November.
Other construction highlights from this month include:
Plaza/Pagoda Work:
- Geary Blvd wall has been poured and cured.
- Demolition and surface preparation around the temporary walkway. Geofoam is being installed in all cavities to raise the level for topping concrete slab pour next month.
- Cement coating over the fiber wrapped columns continues in the Pagoda.
Garage Work:
- Pagoda: core drilling is completed, and contractor is installing steel tendon from roof to foundation. Scaffolding and shoring continue in the ramp leading to lower level.
- Plumbing/Electrical layout and installation continues.
- 60 parking spots under pagoda, in both upper and lower garage levels, will be unavailable for parking through early 2026. Drive cautiously in the garage and follow posted detours signs on both upper and lower levels. Please do not walk on the ramp between levels.
Access to and throughout Japan Center Malls and Garage:
- Access from Geary Boulevard: Use the Geary Boulevard parking garage to access both East Mall and West Mall.
- Access from Post Street: Use the new posted detours into East Mall adjacent to U.S. Bank and to West Malls adjacent West Mall building.
- Sidewalk: Accessible pedestrian detour is open along the north side of Geary between Laguna to Buchanan Streets. For safety, follow all detours, stay within fenced pedestrian detour lane, and avoid walking in the bus lanes.
