Please be advised: The plaza entrance to the West Mall has now returned to the route adjacent to the building. The gate and temporary pathway that had routed pedestrians through the center of the construction site is now closed.
The current route along the building to the West Mall entrance is expected to be in use through Spring 2026.
Other construction highlights include:
Plaza/Pagoda Work:
- Geary Blvd new concrete wall was formed, poured, and currently being stripped but remains protected to reach its full curing time.
- Limited Saturday construction work is expected in October.
- Application of cement coating over the fiber wrapping on first pagoda level continues
- Priming and painting upper pagoda levels.
- Waterproofing continues throughout the plaza. We expect some odor during this process, and fans will be in use to help with airflow.
Garage Work: mostly day work throughout July.
- Plumbing/Electrical layout and installation continues.
- Pagoda: core drilling for future steel tendons completed in foundation. Scaffolding and shoring continue in the ramp leading to lower level and 60 parking spots under pagoda, in both upper and lower garage levels will be occupied through early 2026.
Drive cautiously in the garage and follow posted detours signs on both upper and lower levels. Please do not walk on the ramp between levels.
Access to and throughout Japan Center Malls and Garage:
- Access from Geary Boulevard: Use the Geary Boulevard parking garage to access both East Mall and West Mall.
- Access from Post Street: Use the new posted detours into East Mall adjacent to U.S. Bank and to West Malls adjacent West Mall building.
- Sidewalk: Accessible pedestrian detour is open along the north side of Geary between Laguna to Buchanan Streets. For safety, follow all detours, stay within fenced pedestrian detour lane, and avoid walking in the bus lanes.
