[ARCHIVED] RPD Capital and Planning Team wins three awards at the 5th Annual SF Collaborative Partnering Awards

Capital Project Update

At the end of January, the SF Collaborative Partnering Steering Committee hosted its annual Collaborative Partnering Awards event to recognize project teams in San Francisco departments who demonstrate excellence in collaboration and the application of partnering best practices. This year, three project managers from Rec and Park's Division of Capital and Planning were recognized for their excellence in partnership:

J. Marien Coss – Silver Award for Bayview K.C. Jones Playground Renovation. Adjacent to Martin Luther King, Jr. Pool, this $4.16M construction project ($6M total renovation) transformed this 3.4-acre site with a new children’s playground, a park walking path, adult exercise equipment, a gathering lawn/picnic area, and new baseball/softball field which now features regularly scheduled baseball games. The project team, comprised of design, construction, operations, and capital, resolved an estimated $323K of issues and finished within the amended budget and schedule.

Lauren Dietrich Chavez – Silver Award for the Victoria Manalo Draves Lighting and Park Improvement Project. This $1.5M project located in the SOMA neighborhood, included the installation of new sports and pedestrian lighting, expansion of the community garden, improved sight lines, and a reconfiguration of circulation in the children’s play areas. Even with added scope and unanticipated access improvements, the team delivered on a fast-tracked schedule, opening the playground and ball field early for use by neighboring Bessie Carmichael School, and still hit needed quality metrics.

Noah Levy – Silver Award for the Angelo J. Rossi Pool Renovation Project. This $15.2M pool and site renovation project was recognized as outstanding because the project team overcame significant delays that were outside the team’s control, including effects from the global pandemic, PG&E delays, significant Archeological impacts, and because it brought together a complex group of project stakeholders and consultants who worked as a high-performing team. The team experienced one full year of delays, but managed to mitigate these challenges through resequencing the project stages. These pivots alone saved the City roughly $650K.

The San Francisco Collaborative Partnering Steering Committee (SFCPSC) is comprised of the six San Francisco Departments that deliver construction projects and the contractors, architects, engineers and industry organizations who serve them.  Learn more about the SFCPSC and their annual awards at http://www.sfpartnering.com/.
