Athletic Field Reservations

We know that everyone is anxious to get back out and be able to play.  However, current health orders do not allow youth or adult games to be played and it will take multiple steps at the state and local level before that could happen. Our Department will continue to monitor the health orders closely and we will update families and leagues immediately if there are changes that could allow play.

Under current health orders we can only issue permits for Out of School Time (OST) programs for youth and Outdoor Fitness permits for adults. For more information on each of these programs, see below:

Outside-of-School Time (OST) and Childcare Provider Programs

The most recent Health Order allows youth programs to be offered to children in elementary school and up (K-12), under limited circumstances. See the Health Order and Guidance for Out of School Time Programs. There is a separate Health Order and Guidance for Childcare for young children NOT yet in elementary school. In order to facilitate service providers offering youth programs the Recreation and Park Department will issue permits to program providers that meet the guidelines on a space available basis.

OST programs allow coaches to offer regular fitness/conditioning clinics to groups of children (cohorts). OST cohorts must remain stable meaning children and coaches can only be part of one cohort at a time. OST guidelines require players to wear face coverings and to maintain 6 ft social distancing at all times. No games or scrimmages can be played. For full OST requirements, please refer to the links above. Permits for Out of School Time Programs have been issued through February 28 using synthetic fields only. Our grass fields are closed in the winter for rest.  We are not issuing permits beyond February 28 as we will wait to see if health orders change.  If you are interested in a permit using synthetic fields only between now and February 28, please e-mail

Boot Camps and Yoga Programs

The most recent Health Orders allow adult outdoor fitness classes to be offered under limited circumstances. The San Francisco Park Recreation and Parks Department wants to facilitate the start of these activities as quickly as possible. Any authorized outdoor health and fitness programs will need a permit to operate so that they have a designated space and permission to offer the class. If you are interested, please first review the Department of Public Health’s Re-opening Guidance for Outdoor Fitness, and then complete an application available here.

Baseball diamond

Adults and children of all ages enjoy our variety of athletic fields. We have soccer fields to meet every need from NCAA regulation fields to 7-a-side or microsoccer. We have small diamonds that are perfect for youth- to adult-size baseball and softball diamonds. We have football and lacrosse fields. We even have areas for fun kickball, volleyball or flag football games that can be combined with a picnic. Depending on your needs we offer a range of ways to book facilities. Leagues, programs and events can apply online months in advance and confirm the availability of their fields with plenty of time to plan their seasons. Residents who just want a space for an event or practice can also book. We look forward to helping you!
