[ARCHIVED] Golden Gate Park “Pop-Up” Welcome Center Opening June 15

Welcome Center

San Francisco, CA – The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department, in partnership with the San Francisco Parks Alliance, will officially open its first-ever “pop-up” welcome center in Golden Gate Park on Monday, June 15, 2020. The refurbished freight container, decked out in GGP150 colors, sits in a highly visible location, across from the Conservatory of Flowers, on John F. Kennedy Drive at Nancy Pelosi Drive.

The welcome center will feature items from the official Golden Gate Park 150th Anniversary collection of merchandise such as locally designed zip hoodies, t-shirts, posters, pins, bison plushies, baseball caps, beanies, scarves, and mugs.  These specially-produced items are being sourced through SF Mercantile, a San Francisco-based retailer which produces high quality local interest gifts and keepsakes from area artists.

In addition to the GGP150 branded merchandise, the welcome center will also support local artists and merchants by featuring an array of park-inspired  and recreational items, as well as select items from the park’s museums and attractions.  A portion of all sales will be donated to support Golden Gate Park programs.

The welcome center will be open from 11a.m. – 6 p.m. daily, weather permitting.  It will operate under San Francisco’s phased re-opening plan and adhere to all rules of operation, including mandatory use of face coverings; 6-feet of social distance; and limiting the number of guests.

Customers can also purchase select items from the welcome center and GGP150 Anniversary Collection online and have items shipped directly or utilize curbside pick-up.

The welcome center was originally scheduled to open as part of Golden Gate Park’s 150th anniversary celebration on April 4, 2020, but was delayed due to COVID-19 health requirements and shelter in place guidelines.

As health requirements and shelter in place permits allow, the welcome center will expand operations to include other activities, such as having park guides available to provide information about the park, what to do and see, and general visitor information.
