[ARCHIVED] Crocker Amazon Debuts New Pickleball Courts

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – San Franciscans can now dink and ace on four dedicated pickleball courts at Crocker Amazon Playground, the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department announced today.

The new courts are the result of a collaborative effort led by the San Francisco Tennis and Pickleball Planning Roundtable (SF-TAPP). SF-TAPP engaged residents and conducted surveys and community outreach to identify underused spaces that could be transformed into dedicated pickleball courts. Their full recommendations will be available in September.

“These new courts are part of a broader, long-term commitment to expanding equitable access to high-quality recreation throughout San Francisco,” said SF Rec and Park General Manager Phil Ginsburg. “Pickleball has quickly become one of San Franciscans’ favorite pastimes, and we’re proud to support that growing interest across the city.”

“At SF-TAPP, we’re committed to making sure that every San Franciscan has access to a wide range of courts throughout our beautiful city,” said SF-TAPP member Martha Ehrenfeld. “In a place as vibrant and densely populated as San Francisco, finding new space isn’t easy. That’s why we’re thoughtfully exploring underutilized areas and park spaces that can be reimagined—so we can offer more opportunities for everyone to play, connect, and stay active.”

The Crocker Amazon pickleball courts are now available for reservation through SF Rec and Park’s online booking system, helping to ensure fair and convenient access for players of all levels.

The new courts were converted from a volleyball court to help meet the surging demand for one of the city’s fastest-growing sports. Over the past several years, the department has dramatically expanded the number of pickleball courts, growing from just 12 in 2018 to more than 90 locations available today.
